RECYCLING
Recycling is mandatory in the City of Rochester and items are to be placed in the recycle containers provided by the city. If you are in need of a recycle bin, or if you have any questions about recycling materials, call or stop by City Hall. Residents may now recycle clean white paper and white computer paper. Residents should bundle the paper with twine or string or place in a paper bag and deposit in their bins for recycling collection. Staples are acceptable, but paper clips must be removed. The following are examples of what should be recycled: Aluminum and tin cans; clean aluminum foil products. Green, clear and brown glass Paper, “junk mail,” cardboard cereal and food boxes Corrugated cardboard (cut into two-foot square pieces) No. 1 and No. 2 plastics Small scrap metal Household batteries.
LEAF PICK-UP
The DPW offers leaf pick-up to the residents in the fall only. Leaves should be raked to the curb for removal. Pick up usually starts around the end of September and continues through the first week of December.
Please do NOT throw brush or garden trimmings in the leaf piles as it plugs up the machines. If the crews see brush or garden trimmings in the leaf piles they will go around the leaf pile.
YARD WASTE PICK-UP
GFL will begin picking-up yard waste on April 1st and will continue Through November 30th. Yard waste must be placed in Leaf Bags/Paper Bags or in a container clearly marked “Yard Waste.” Yard waste placed in plastic bags will not be picked up.
BRUSH PICK-UP
Incidental brush pick-up is offered year round by the DPW. Please stack all cut ends in the same direction. Do NOT throw lumber, landscape ties, roots or root balls, or picker type bushes in with the rest of the pile. These items must be separated. Typically there will be a nominal charge for separation and removal of these items, as the DPW has to pay extra to dispose them. Contracted tree trimmings will NOT be picked up by the DPW. You must have the contractor who completed the tree work remove the associated brush.
LARGE ITEM PICK-UP
GFL sends a separate truck to remove large items that do not fit in the normal trash truck. These items include the following: Box Springs Chair Dishwasher Mattress Small Stumps Sofa/Couch Television Toilet Tub Washer/Dryer Water Heater Water Softener.
